After finally completing the arcade machine [see this post] a few friends and I have spent quite a few evenings playing various games and soaking up the nostalgia.

Within a few weeks the nostalgia took on a more competitive edge and we were soon competing against each other on Space Invaders and various other ‘80s classics and this has now been taken one step further (some would say, too far :) ) with the inception of the Arcade Olympics – 12 classic games, all in different categories with both high scores and overall rankings to play for.

The games we’ve chosen are:

Space Invaders
Pac Man
Frogger
Asteroids
Lunar Lander
Missile Command
Sprint
Galaxian
1942
Dig Dug
Donkey Kong
Kung Fu Master

There are a couple more games that probably should be added, but we didn’t want to make the list too long as it needs to fit in to an evenings worth of gaming.

Scoring is done on rankings for each game (event) with the lowest overall score winning. There is also a High Achiever Award for the person with the highest overall score on all games (i.e. a sum of all the game scores).

Hopefully I’ll post some benchmarks later for anyone else who is interested in taking up the challenge.

Who needs WoW. Happy classic gaming.
