It grew and grew, and I got drunk and forgot to take some more pictures. But I can reassure you it did get rather hairy.

Then I shaved it off. Or more to the point I got my friend and barber Jim “The Razor” Pickering to take it outside and sort it out. Here are a couple of examples of what he put me through.

I’ve updated the donations page with the amount of money I think I’ve raised, but I’m still collecting.

With a couple of weeks to go (yes, the beard is that big) I’ve been adding up how much I’ve got in sponsorship. The good news is it now totals just over £200. The even better news is that I think RBS will match what I’ve raised and this oculd mean I’m able to donate nearly £500 to Cancer Research.

As £500 sounds good, my aim now is to get my sponsorship to £250.

This is the last picture before I make at least a little trim.

It’s starting to get in my mouth and I really need to  do something about that.Whether I’ll trim any more, I don’t really knwo yet. I don’t want to as it I’d like to stick to the idea of letting it get bigger, but we shall see.

Day 38

It’s getting a bit big now. I might need to trim a couple of areas soon, but for the time being I’m going to let it grow evenly. It’s the bits of hair getting in my mouth that are starting to bother me.

29 Days Later

Oh, it’s starting to get furry now.

People have started noticing it’s more than just me forgetting to shave, and everyone I meet for the first time get the same line, “I’m growing it for charity.” More worryingly I have grey bits coming through where there used to be ginger bits. I’m not sure if this should worry me or not.

Day 17

Things are looking a lot more hairy now. It’s getting hard to tell if the beared is getting longer. Hopefully it is, ’cause if it isn’t I’m going to be hairy for a long time to come.

Okay, so I forgot to take a picture on the first day, but here’s day four which isn’t too far from the start. I’m not sure if I’ll be doing a post every couple of days or once per week. It’ll depend on the speed of growth.

Beard Blog - Day Four

There isn’t much of a plan.

Start Date: 20th January 2007
End Date: When I’ve grown a beard of goodly length
Length: A couple of centermeters
Target Money: £200

Being someone who’s always happy to take on a challenge, especially if it raises money for a good cause, when the gauntlett was thrown down for me to grow a beard (after some banter about others in the office not being able to grow any facial hair) with the money raised gowing to Cancer Research, I was more than happy to do my bit. Even better I’m achieving this without making any effort at all (just a bit of scratching evey now and then).

A donations site has been set up, but to make it more fun I thought I’d chart my progress on a blog. This will show weekly updates and possibly a groth-o-metre if I work out how to do one.

Please give some money and feel free to comment, hopefully with words of encouragement.
